100th Birthday Celebrations for Mrs. Pearl Codrington

Family, friends, and community members gathered last Sunday, November 10, 2025, to celebrate the 100th birthday of Mrs. Pearl Codrington, affectionately known as Ma Pearl.

The celebration took place at the family homestead, Camber House, where nearly 80 guests joined throughout the day to honour her remarkable life. Among those in attendance was the Premier, who joined the Codrington family in marking this special milestone. Representatives from across the political spectrum were also present, reflecting the broad respect Mrs. Codrington has earned throughout her lifetime.

The Premier said, “It was an honour to celebrate Mrs. Codrington’s 100th birthday surrounded by her family and the generations she has raised. Her story is one of perseverance, care, and community. Few can say they have touched as many lives as she has, and Bermuda is better for the love and example she continues to share.”

The day’s highlights included a touching performance of the birthday song by two of her great-grandchildren and the joyful sight of five generations gathered. When asked how she enjoyed her day, Ma Pearl shared that she “really enjoyed it, especially the food.”

Born on November 10, 1925, to Olive Smith and Samuel Trott, Mrs. Codrington lost her mother during childbirth and was raised by her grandmother, Rose Smith. They lived in Daniel’s Head before moving to Manchester Street. After marrying Louis Codrington, she welcomed her first child, Clinton, affectionately known as Bo, while living on King Street. The family later moved to Boaz Island, where she raised her remaining children in Kings North House, Clock Block.

In 1978, the family moved into Camber House, which has remained the family’s gathering place ever since. There, Mrs. Codrington continued to nurture and guide her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and neighbourhood children who became part of her extended family.

Today, her legacy includes 10 children, 21 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren who continue to carry forward her values of family, kindness, and perseverance.
