The Economic Development Department (EDD), in collaboration with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Bermuda (PrivCom), is hosting a webinar on Tuesday, 6 May 2025, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM to introduce the 2025 iteration of the PINK (Privacy Innovation and Knowledge-sharing) Sandbox.
This free virtual information session is aimed at organisations and innovators across Bermuda who are working with emerging technologies or delivering exceptional innovation around the use of personal information. It offers a chance to engage directly with regulators, learn more about the initiative, and explore how the PINK Sandbox can support safe, impactful innovation.
The PINK Sandbox is a formal programme developed by PrivCom. It aims to allow participating organisations to test or refine novel products, services, or projects that process personal data while receiving guidance from the privacy regulator on compliance, risk management, and best practices. PrivCom's approach reflects a global movement among regulators to provide space for innovation through structured engagement and regulatory foresight.
Minister of Economy and Labour, the Hon. Jason Hayward, JP, MP, stated, “Bermuda has long championed innovation rooted in integrity and sound governance. The PINK Sandbox is another step forward in creating a responsible innovation ecosystem. We're proud to support this initiative and encourage stakeholders to participate and take advantage of this opportunity to shape the future responsibly."
Privacy Commissioner Alexander White added: "Just like other regulators around the world, PrivCom has developed ‘sandboxes,’ or structures where innovative organisations can test their product, project, or service and experiment in a controlled environment and in close coordination with the regulator. The regulator's role in a sandbox is to provide oversight and expertise. In the past, the Pink Sandbox focused on training and equipping participating organisations with the necessary knowledge, skills, and framework geared towards PIPA compliance. We have just relaunched the Pink Sandbox to support organisations which are creating products, projects, or services that utilise personal information in innovative and safe ways."
This webinar is a helpful introduction to the Sandbox. Organisations interested in applying to participate in the 2025 PINK Sandbox must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) form to innovation@privacy.bm by the end of the day on 11 May 2025.
