Ministry Extends Invitation School Transformation Team Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy

Education

The Ministry of Education is inviting applications for a new Transformation Team tasked with reimagining the Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy.

The Ministry is seeking a talented, diverse, and dedicated team to help design a Signature School that serves students with moderate to profound intellectual disabilities or complex developmental delays who require multi-layered support. In this context, a Signature School is a specialised learning environment that models best practices in special education and provides customised curricula to meet each student’s unique needs.

Minister of Education, Senator, the Hon. Crystal Caesar, JP, stated, “Prioritising inclusion means expanding and improving educational placements in the Bermuda Public School System (BPSS). We aim to meet and adapt to each learner’s nuanced needs. Placements may be in the regular classroom, a special programme within a mainstream school, or a specialised setting at a special school site. We will create a new school for learners with moderate to profound intellectual disabilities or complex developmental delays who require multi-layered interdisciplinary support. Our goal is an inclusive and equitable education system for our children. To realise this vision, we need parents, educators, service providers, and community members to collaborate as part of the School Transformation Team.”

Minister Caesar added, “The school transformation process creates opportunities for us to listen and learn. It helps broaden our collective understanding of the diverse ways our students learn, grow, develop and contribute. We are confident that reimagining Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy will open more doors to learning, opportunities, and belonging for many students and their families. This new school will truly serve all students, including those with differing needs and abilities.”

“We are looking for a team with a wide range of skills, experiences, and perspectives. If you have worked with young people of different abilities, disabilities, or needs, whether in specialist settings or not, we encourage you to apply. We welcome classroom teachers, special education teachers, therapists, medical professionals, social workers, lawyers, and others from diverse backgrounds.”

What will the Transformation Team do?

This team will help design a new school model that follows international standards by:

  • Defining the full scope of a Signature School for learners with exceptionalities;
  • Learning from local and international schools, students, and communities;
  • Working with the Department of Education’s Student Services division to ensure that new ideas connect with current system improvements;
  • Testing and refining ideas with families, educators, community members and partners
  • Developing clear plans to bring ideas to life; and
  • Building a movement to support this new model of education.

By completing the expression of interest form, you help us build a team of talented people who can support and learn from one another, quickly becoming a high-performing, impactful team.

To apply, go to forms.gov.bm or scan the QR code. Fill out the Expression of Interest (EOI) Form, which includes questions about your background, motivation, and how you approach collaboration and change.
